Scheduling and Rescheduling Pointers to Build Relationships - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Scheduling and Rescheduling Pointers to Build Relationships - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Hectic is the only way to describe everyones schedule today. Those still working are doing the job of at least 3-4 people, which affects interview and sales appointments. Entrepreneurs are trying to stay above water. So many have over-extended themselves. Consequently, rescheduling has become a necessity more than ever. However, some people choose to ignore the fact you have a meeting scheduled. They show no concern for your time and try to make it seem that it was your fault that you incorrectly wrote the date on your calendar. While others will call at the last minute to reschedule, never giving thought that you might have had to turn down another opportunity because you keep your commitments. Should you be the one needing to reschedule, dont be influenced by others in letting the time slot come and go. Instead, use these three tips: 1. Give as much advance warning as possible The party on the other end will be grateful to have enough advance warning to properly fill the now vacant time slot. You will actually build the relationship between you when this is done properly. Why? Your advance warning demonstrates you are considerate, thereby building trust in you, enabling business down the road. 2. Apologize for any inconvenience Apologizing is an art form today. Almost no one does it. When you say, âI am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused,â you set yourself apart from everyone else. Once again, this simple statement will build your likeability factor and will encourage others to carefully listen to you when you do meet. 3. Offer 4 or 5 choices for new dates and times and ask the other party to confirm one. Make it easy for the other party to read and to say âYes!â You accomplish this by listing the dates and times underneath one another rather than in paragraph form. The listing is direct, easy to scan, and easy to pick a substitute date. Suggest to the other party that they offer alternate dates and times should your selection not work. Reconfirm how the connection will be made. Lastly, thank the other party for being flexible. Saying thank you is another wonderful relationship building technique and again works to increase your likeability factor. On the flip side, when others ask you to reschedule be gracious and as accommodating as possible. Similarly offer alternate dates and times should the ones you provided not work for your schedule. The entire idea behind this is to continue building relationships with everyone: hiring managers, friends, associates, prospects and clients. This will keep the positive flow of energy moving and everyone in an agreeable mood. By being thoughtful, not only will you attract far more business but you will have a greater chance of landing the job you desire or anything else you want in life. How Brexit is Affecting Hiring Strategies
How Brexit is Affecting Hiring Strategies With just under a year to go until Brexit, 96% of HR professionals and recruiters say that Brexit is already having an impact on their hiring strategies. Almost 50% of which envision a âbigâ or âhugeâ impact is still coming. This new research comes from the first of LinkedInâs quarterly Recruiter Sentiment Survey, which will track in-house HR departmentsâ and agency recruitersâ confidence in their ability to fill available roles, reflecting the trends they are seeing in the marketplace. Brexit taking its toll on hiring According to respondents, the top factors impacting hiring strategies as a result of Brexit are; the availability of talent, business uncertainty, the reluctance of candidates to move to the UK and competition from international businesses. As Brexit negotiations continue, recruiters are seeing a negative impact on international hiring into the UK. Some are seeing a decrease in hiring from core European markets; with 37% of recruiters seeing a decrease from Italy, 35% from France, 35% from Germany, 32% from the Netherlands, 29% from Spain and 33% from other EU 27 countries over the last quarter. But itâs not just the EU, recruiters are seeing a decrease in hires from South Africa (27%), Canada (27%), Australia (26%) and the USA (25%) too. Based on their conversations with candidates, over two-fifths (44%) said the UK is now less attractive to EU 27 candidates, and a third (28%) to the rest of the world. London, in particular, could be losing its appeal as a result of Brexit, with recruiters feeling the biggest impact on hiring 54% say itâs having a âhugeâ or âbigâ impact and 39% said reluctance of candidates to relocate to the capital was a factor in this. With just under a year to go until we officially leave the EU, itâs clear that this is one of the biggest factors impacting hiring strategies. With less international talent looking to the UK for career opportunities, the war for talent is more competitive than ever as the UK labor market tightens. This means there is a huge opportunity for businesses to focus on their employer branding efforts to make their voice heard and their brand name known. Only then will they be able to attract the top professionals â" at home and further afield. The sectors which are feeling the biggest impact on hiring as a result of Brexit according to talent professionals are healthcare (13%), manufacturing (11%), construction (11%), education (11%), banking and finance (11%) and retail (10%). Recruiters are still confident Despite concerns about the impact of the Brexit vote, overall confidence amongst talent professionals is relatively high. What is found is that 71% feel âveryâ or âextremelyâ confident about their ability to recruit the right talent, and almost 50% have seen an increase in hiring over the first quarter of 2018. Over two-fifths have seen no change in hiring rates. For those who have seen an increase in hiring, the main reasons behind this have been: business growth, more vacancies. more suitable candidates on the market and sector-specific needs. Sourcing and hiring candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds is a âmajorâ or âbigâ priority for recruiters, according to 56%. Three tips to help you counter the Brexit effect There are three important steps you should be taking to address the talent challenges you might face after the Brexit vote. Ensuring that long-term hiring strategies and workforce planning are aligned with business priorities is vital. HR teams should be leveraging workforce insights and data to ensure that in combination with their recruitersâ instincts, they make informed decisions and plan to hire talent not just for skills their business needs now, but will need in six to 12 months time too. Make more of what you already have, and think about how you could upskill your existing team to ensure that your business is well equipped to navigate the more competitive external hiring landscape. Think learning and development first. Elevate your brand beyond borders. Make it appealing to the talent you need now, and in the future, to ensure your access to the talent pool you need, from the UK and abroad, is maintained. How Successful Women Lead Interview with Sharon Hadary
How Successful Women Lead Interview with Sharon Hadary This week I had the opportunity to interview Sharon Hadary, Co-Author of How Women Lead: 8 Essential Strategies Successful Women Know. Sharon Hadary is the former executive director of the Center for Womenâs Business Research. Dr. Hadary has been a leader in creating social change for women for over two decades. Her recent articles on womenâs business leadership have appeared in Enterprising Women Magazine, MBE Magazine and she is widely quoted on the subject in the media. Currently, she is an adjunct professor at University of Maryland University College teaching leadership. We covered so much in this interview! It was so inspiring! The title of our 1-hour call was âHow To Show Leadership Potential and Get Ahead In Your Career By Leadingâ In the interview with Sharon Hadary we discussed: Common strategies of successful women leaders and how not to get stuck in lower level positions How a young professional woman just starting out can be viewed as having leadership potential and break into management. How to know your leadership strengths and enhance those strengths. The best approach to take for asking a woman in leadership to be your mentor How to be a manager when you are worried about how to manage your family life as well. What you can do daily to ensure that you develop as a leader. This topic is more important than EVER right now because this is a new world for women in business. Over half of all managerial and professional positions are held by women. Women are no longer as likely to face the challenge of being the âfirstâ women or the âonlyâ woman. There are now role models for us to learn from and the movement of women in the workforce is having a tremendous economic impact as well. Mckinsey Company estimates that Americaâs gross domestic product is about 25% higher than it would have been without the influx of women. For the first time in history, there is research showing that companies with more women in high-level positions report better financial performance than those with fewer women at these levels. Pepperdine University researchers found that 25 Fortune 500 firms with the best record of promoting women to senior positions are as much as 69% more profitable than the median Fortune 500 companies in their industries. (All statistics came from Sharons book, How Women Lead: 8 Essential Strategies Successful Women Know). And these are all amazing statistics, BUT, despite the substantial evidence of the value that women bring to business leadership, their upward movement is not matching the rate of their overall movement into professional and managerial positions. Women get to middle management and stall. The growth of numbers of women in executive positions and on boards of directors has remained flat for the last few years. Other studies show women worldwide are still not advancing through the pipeline at the same rates as men, and womenâs compensation has stayed relatively consistent in the last four years instead of getting better for top women executives. So, there is a need for us to learn more about what is holding women leaders back and to learn from other women who have overcome challenges and made it. Thanks for taking the time to talk with us Sharon Hadary!

The mindset you MUST-HAVE when Job Hunting.
The mindset you MUST-HAVE when Job Hunting. Let me start out by saying Job Hunting is hard, and it is a painful process. Sometimes, it is a lengthy process â" it can take few weeks or months to secure a job.The process is hard on your psyche, your motivation, your self-esteem, etc. It does take a toll on you physically, mentally and emotionally. Trust me I have been there few times in my life.evalYou might be a New Graduate, OR you recently got laid-off / fired; OR you might have a job and you feel that you are not going anywhere OR your boss sucks. Whatever the reason, nobody likes to be in a situation where they need to look for a job.In this article, I want to talk about the mindset that you MUST have when JOB HUNTING. This mindset is more important ;it is something you must fix foremost before Job Hunting.OK- this will come out a bit insensitive, and yes it might hurt, but it is the truth. Do you want to know what the cold hard truth is?NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOU..The reasons we look for a job are totally personal and you wa nt a job for your own reasons such as:1. You hate your boss2. You want to make more moneyeval3. You want more growth opportunities4. You need money to pay the bills.5. You want something closer to home, and avoid commuting. And yes, these are all valid reasons, however the person/company hiring you does not care about any of this. Most of us, go with a needy or desperate mindset when looking for jobs. And hiring managers and organizations can smell desperation miles away.evalSo what are they looking for? What do they care about?WHATâS IN IT FOR THEM?Companies do not hire employees out of benevolent reasons. They are concerned about their profits, sales, bottomline, etc. They want to know if the person they hire can do the job for them to help their company. And that is the Cold Hard Truth. The questions they are asking themselves during the hiring process, are ; â Can this person do the job?â , â Will this person be an asset to the organization?â, â Can this person bring mo re customers to the organization?â , âCan this person help reduce operating expenses?âSo now you know what they are looking for. So I strongly recommend that you change your mindset.Your goal when Job Hunting is to find an opportunity where you can add value to that organization or the hiring manager. It is about them. It is always about them.Adopt this mindset immediately. And project this mindset through the Job Hunting process. Project this on your cover letter, resume, your interviews. This will significantly improve your chances of securing a job you are looking for.CALL TO ACTIONevalDo a self-analysis on your skills and experience. After introspection, you must be able to ascertain what you can bring to the table. What is your track record? What are you good at? What is the benefit of the company hiring you? Why should they hire you? Once you have the answers, update your cover letters, resumes and also modify your interviews to answer these questions. You will see a signi ficant and positive difference in your Job Hunting. You will also be able to secure a role sooner than it would normally take you.All the best with your Job Hunting!!

Thrillride.com - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog
Thrillride.com - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog One of my favourite websites is thrillride.com, maintained by Robert Coker. The subject is of course roller coasters and similar adrenaline machines and the sense of humour, the tone and the excellent writing all make this one of the most fun websites to visit. For a sample, check out the review of the worlds tallest and fastes roller coaster, Top Thrill Dragster in Cedar Point: One We start to move. Very fast. Those who arent yet screaming begin doing so. Two We must be traveling at 80 MPH and the train just keeps on accelerating like its got solid-propellant rockets on board. Every alarm in my nervous system is wailing at Red Alert volume. Three I cant scream anymore. Unqualified terror and the forces pummeling my body literally strangle me into silence. Were still accelerating. Four Knifing through the air, the train hits 120 brain-splattering miles per hour. And now things really go berserk. Five We rip up the first vertical curve to about 150 feet in altitude, and climb ever higher, straight into the firmament, with stupefying speed. My adrenalines flowing just reading about about it :o) Ive gotta get to Ohio one of these days. Its one of those deals where I can hardly bear the mere thought of getting on that roller coaster but I HAVE to do it. Thanks for visiting my blog. What to Format Writing Awards on a Colllege Resume
What to Format Writing Awards on a Colllege ResumeHow to format writing awards on a college resume is an important topic that has to be handled very carefully. Not only does it help your own applications but also in doing your job interviews as well. Today you are able to get information easily from the internet which can help you in making the right decision in writing them up.There are many websites that are helping you in making the right choice by providing you with all the information that you need to know about collage award forms. The best thing that they have to say is that it should not matter which section you put it in.For this one of the benefits that they claim is that you can place them in any part of your college career support form. This helps a lot for those who want to put them on their catalogs, letterhead, and even the cover letter.Since the information is written on paper the sizes are different and since they are arranged the way that you prefer them placed in y our home or dorm room, the size of the file can be anywhere from a 5.5 x 8 inches to the poster size. So you get a wide range in the sizes that you need and the number of entries that you need. One of the first steps in how to format writing awards on a college resume is to pick the appropriate document format for that. You have a lot of options in case you do not have one already picked out. The first thing that you have to decide on is whether you want to use the letter form, cap and a part, or a business card. The next step that you will have to do is make sure that the collage awards are the appropriate ones for the college careers that you have chosen. Usually these include regular jobs, scholarships, and some sort of scholarship. If you have chosen any of these, you will also need to choose the right date to submit the application. The last thing that you have to do is to write down the information and then tell it to the right person in your office. By doing this you can know if it is ready or not.
